Aaaahh, tiramisu how we love you!
Tiramisu has been a staple in this Italian home for many years. Growing up, every Sunday, the whole family would get together for dinner… and I mean the whole family. Aunts, Uncles, grandparents, cousins, brothers, sisters, heck, even the next door neighbor.
Part of our Sunday Italian dinner was the desserts & boy there was a ton of it! I am talking about cheesecakes, cannolis, rainbow cookies, and yes the infamous Tiramisu cake.
Tiramisu is known for its luxurious creamy taste with a hint of espresso dipped in ladyfinger cookies. Even my Irish- Polish husband loves it. So here’s the recipe for our infamous Tiramisu Trifle, so easy & no baking required!
Ingredients:
1. Ladyfingers- we buy the Savoiardi brand, found in Italian supermarkets.
2. Liquor- Strega Liquor can be found at any liquor store. You will need 1/4 cup of this.
3. 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
4. 3 Hershey Chocolate Bars
5. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder to sprinkle upon each layer.
6. 16 oz. Mascarpone Cheese
7. Espresso- make a pot and set it aside to cool
8. 5 egg yolks
9. 1 cup sugar
10. Trifle bowl
Directions:
1. Pour the made espresso in a bowl to let it cool.
2. In a bowl, mix together the Strega, vanilla, eggs, cheese, and sugar until it is creamy and soft.
3. Dip your ladyfinger cookies into the espresso and place down into your trifle bowl. This is your first layer.
4. Add the cream mixture. Layer it on top of the lady finger cookies. Spread evenly.
5. Then, chop up your chocolate bar until they are into pieces. Places these pieces all over the cream.
6. Sprinkle unsweetened cocoa powder to the top of the chocolate.
7. Repeat these steps until you reach the top of the trifle bowl. The top layer should be the unsweetened cocoa powder.
